Perhaps the most traditional way to literally ring in the new year, spending it with thousands at Bosingak Bell Pavilion may not be so terrible. Sixteen people, including the mayor, will ring the bell 33 times to bid farewell to the end of the year and welcome the start of the new. Sure, it’ll be cold and crowded but experiencing a tradition that dates back to the Joseon Dynasty is a memory that you’ll be sharing with your loved ones throughout the new year.

Jeju Island

This picturesque island is known the world over for gorgeous landscapes and is a mecca for K-drama fans, having been the backdrop for many iconic scenes in various series. As the name suggests, Seongsan Sunrise Peak is a popular spot to view the first sunrise of the new year as it also offers a fantastic view of the surrounding areas.
