Minggu Muzik Malaysia Comes to a Close on Malaysia Day with Finale Concert

In conjunction with Malaysia Day celebration and Festival Permainan Malaysia, Minggu Muzik Malaysia (MMM) 2019 concluded a week-long celebration with music in a finale concert held at Dataran Merdeka. The concert featured star artistes including Ayda Jebat, Faizal Tahir, Hujan, Ella, Rabbit Mac, Fuying & Sam, Priscilla Abby and Dennis Lau as they each presented their original Malaysian music to the crowd.

MMM 2019 Organising Chairman Sylvester Fan said: “It has been a truly remarkable journey organising MMM for the last 12 months. The vision that I had to build a platform for local businesses, brands and artistes has come to life and I could not be more grateful for the support I have received from all my partners. This country is home to many amazing opportunities, and I hope more Malaysians would to rise to the challenge to push boundaries of the local music industry. It is the support of the mass that will help make a change. MMM’s objective is to also support the tourism industry as music brings people together. MMM is more than just a concert, it is a platform to promote Malaysia to the world”.

Festival Permainan Malaysia is organised by Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara (JKKN) while MMM 2019 is organised by 11Tune and DOREMi with the venue hosted by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL).

MMM is a week-long celebration of original Malaysian music. Its inaugural edition, which took place in Kuala Lumpur from 9 to 15 September 2019, saw MMM taking original Malaysian music to the streets of Bukit Bintang with flash mobs and busker performances. MMM 2019 is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MoTAC), Tourism Malaysia, Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA), Branding Association of Malaysia, Recording Academy of Malaysia (RIM), Persatuan Usahawan Maju Malaysia (PUMM), Malaysia Book of Records and is partnering with AirAsia BIG, travel360, Astro Radio, Nerdunit, Spectrum Outdoor, ticket2u, SKOWT and many others.

“This platform was built to connect businesses, brands and people through music, but it is evident that change will not happen overnight. It is a continued effort which MMM aims to execute in the coming years so stay tuned on our social media for future updates,” Fan adds. Plans for organising MMM 2020 has begun and Fan would like to urge interested parties to come forward and be a part of this platform.

The audience was all pumped up for the festivities.

Leading up to the finale concert, MMM had initiated a range of activities to promote original Malaysian music. They include the hosting of Concert in the Air, which earned them a recognition for the Highest Altitude Live Music Performance from the Malaysia Book of Records. Apart from that, a competition called Battle of Talents was held to discover and nurture local talent. The competition received more than 70 applications and the 20 finalists performed for the crowd at the Battle of Talents finals on 14 September at Dataran Merdeka. The winner of MMM’s Battle of Talents 2019 was Nadir. The Rudean and The Massive were first and second runners-up respectively.
