YB Syed Saddiq Officially Opens Grand Bazaar Ramadan Raya

The Grand Bazaar Ramadan Raya (GBRR) was officially launched today by YB Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Minister of Youth & Sports, Malaysia, with plenty of fanfare at Carpark B in Stadium Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

This is the largest Ramadan bazaar in the country and has close to 436 booths selling clothes, cookies, snacks, food, drinks, electrical appliances, furniture and a whole lot more. GBRR will attempt to make it into the Malaysia Book of Records as the largest Ramadan bazaar in the country.

Organised by Media Prima and Build Up Resources and powered by AirAsia BIG, GBRR began on 16 May and will run until 4 June 2019. Its opening hours are from 3pm to 12am on weekdays and 11am to 12am on weekends and public holidays.

Also present to revel in the festivities of today’s launch were local artists, government officials,  officials from Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia, stakeholders, students from the Bukit Jalil Sports School and underprivileged children from various homes and orphanages. In his opening speech, YB Syed Saddiq called on all attendees to mingle and break fast with the others present  instead of sitting with their own cliques. He said this would represent the true essence of Malaysia.

The highlight of GBRR is Mekar Ramadan, a colourful interactive LED installation that is bound to be a favourite feature to bring in the likes on Instagram. Another interesting feature is the traditional kampung house. Outside the house is a vintage Mercedes Benz and Mini Cooper while inside visitors can check out old typewriters, radios and even a gramophone.

At the AirAsia BIG pavilion, located right at the main entrance of the bazaar, visitors can participate in a variety of exciting games to win BIG Points and other fantastic prizes. Up to 500 BIG Points are up for grabs with the Jalan Kaya Raya Kinect, a motion capturing game where participants can steer a car with just their hands – no steering wheel needed. AirAsia credit cardholders who take part in the game will enjoy double the BIG Points.
