MR CHEW’S CHINO LATINO BAR, Best Restaurant Bar
The vibrant portrait – a cheeky take on the Empress Dowager Cixi with a tortilla chip and a bottle of tequila by her side – decorates the chic, main dining area of Mr Chew’s Chino Latino Bar. The painting isn’t just deco; it mirrors the scintillating whimsy of this new bar – the brainchild of Chef Christian Bauer and Eddie Chew, Director of Troika Sky Dining in Kuala Lumpur.
Occupying the penthouse of WOLO Hotel in Bukit Bintang, the establishment plates tantalising Asian-inspired creations (some inspired by Mr Chew’s family recipes!) like pan seared barramundi with spicy tamarind, chilli sauce, coconut cream and pineapple avocado ginger flower salsa; and palate-pleasing nori taco with sushi rice, salmon belly and salmon roe drizzled with tobikko (flying fish roe) mayo.
Cocktails at Mr Chew’s are crafted with equal finesse with a list of titillating tipples like Ancient Fashion (Japanese whisky, Creole bitters, 5 spices syrup and torched kumquat) and the light, breezy Mr Chew’s ‘Take-Away’ G&T (Opihr gin, pink peppercorns and guava, Three Cents Aegean Tonic).
